Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a fictional boarding school for young witches and wizards located in the Scottish Highlands, United Kingdom. Founded around 990 AD by four of the greatest wizards of the age - Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin - Hogwarts is one of the most prestigious magical schools in the wizarding world. The school accepts students from Great Britain and Ireland, offering a seven-year education program covering subjects such as Transfiguration, Charms, Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, and many others. The castle features magical architecture with moving staircases, enchanted portraits, and numerous secret passages. Students are sorted into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin, each with its own values and traditions. The school is protected by numerous enchantments and is unplottable, making it invisible to Muggles (non-magical people).
