El Colegio de México (Colmex) is a public research and teaching institution founded in 1940 in Mexico City. It grew out of La Casa de España en México and specializes in social sciences and humanities. Campus life

Colmex has a single campus in southern Mexico City. It is a small, graduate-oriented institution with no residence halls. Student life centers on academic work: seminars, conferences, library, and research. The Academic Exchange Office (OIA) supports international students with practical information. Colmecas alumni organize networking and job-fair events. There are no varsity sports; the environment is focused on social sciences and humanities. Academic year: two semesters (August–December, January–June). Medical insurance is required for international students.

Career & internships

Internships: Colmex does not run a central internship program; research stays and fieldwork are part of many graduate programs. The Colmecas alumni job board (bolsa de trabajo) lists vacancies for graduates. The institution holds a Feria de Licenciaturas y Posgrados with networking. Exchange and mobility are supported by OIA and partner agreements. Internships or professional practice depend on the program and are often arranged individually or through research projects.

  • Scholarships available: Colmex offers the “Elisa Acuña” scholarship for undergraduate and graduate mobility (exchanges, research stays, conferences, fieldwork). Fundación Colmex runs campaigns such as “Colmex en Movimiento” and “El Colmex es Tuyo.” Exchange students from partner universities study without tuition. International Summer Program participants from partner institutions may receive 50% off the program fee. AMEXCID (Mexican cooperation agency) offers support for exchanges. Fundación BBVA-Colmex has provided mobility scholarships (travel, books, maintenance). Postdoctoral fellowships are awarded through public calls.
