About the university
The University of Defence (Univerzita obrany, UO) is the flagship military university of the Czech Republic, located in Brno and established in 2004 through the merger of older military educational institutions. It provides professional education and training for officers and specialists for the Czech Armed Forces and allied forces. The university offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes in security and defence studies, military leadership, weapons systems, cybersecurity, logistics, and crisis management. UO combines academic research with intensive practical training in military science, leadership, physical readiness, and technical skills applicable to defence operations. It participates in international exchanges and cooperation with military academies abroad, enhancing interoperability with NATO and other partner forces. The campus includes barracks, training grounds, laboratories and simulation centres that support rigorous military and professional preparation.
