About the university
Beijing Institute of Technology was founded in 1940 in Yan'an as Yan'an Natural Science Academy—the first CPC institution for natural science and China's first science-and-engineering university. Renamed BIT in 1951; now a major research university in Beijing with campuses in Zhongguancun (Haidian), Liangxiang (Fangshan), and Zhuhai. Strengths in engineering, energy, electronics, optics, mechanics, automation, materials, and defense-related research.
