About the university
Sichuan University was established in 1896 as Sichuan Chinese and Western School in Chengdu; the earliest modern higher education institution in Southwest China. Formed by mergers with Chengdu University of Science and Technology (1994) and West China University of Medical Sciences (2000, originally West China Union University 1910). Three campuses—Wangjiang, Huaxi, Jiang'an—covering 470 hectares. Comprehensive university with 34 colleges; strengths in chemical engineering, chemistry, AI, environmental engineering, medicine (West China schools), and humanities. Overseas Students Office (global.scu.edu.cn/oso) runs degree and non-degree programs in Chinese and English. International dormitories: Wangjiang Hongwa (single 50–52, standard 36–40, suite 48 CNY/person/day), West Zone (60/person/day); Huaxi (single 52, double 42, triple 24, attic 17–30 CNY/person/day; 120 kWh free electricity/month); Jiang'an (single 18,000, double 9,000, triple 6,000 CNY/bed/year, utilities included).
