Juárez Autonomous University of Tabasco (UJAT) is a large public university based in Villahermosa, Tabasco, and is the main higher education institution in the state. With origins in the Juárez Institute of 1879 and university status since 1958, it offers undergraduate and graduate programs in engineering, health sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, law, business, education and agriculture. The university has multiple academic divisions and campuses, including areas focused on environmental studies and water resources related to the Grijalva–Usumacinta basin.
