The Universidad de Guanajuato (UG) is a public autonomous university. Its origins date to 1732 (Hospice of the Holy Trinity); it became the National College of Guanajuato in 1867 and received its current name and university status in 1945. Autonomy was granted in 1994. Teaching is in Spanish. UG ranks among the top 10 public universities in Mexico (QS Latin America) and is strong in medicine and health sciences. It has over 300 cooperation agreements (234 international) and a job board linked to OCC Mundial.

Campus life

UG has campuses in 14 cities in the state of Guanajuato (Guanajuato capital, León, Irapuato-Salamanca, Celaya, etc.). There is no single main campus; each site has its own facilities and student life. There are no central dorms; students rent privately. The job board (bolsadetrabajo.ugto.mx) and OCC UG (partnership with OCC Mundial, 17,000 companies) publish vacancies. Ferias de Empleo and Encuentros de Reclutamiento are held on several campuses (e.g. 58 companies and 890 vacancies at one event). Ecosistema VIDA UG supports employability and employer relations. Guanajuato city is a historic college town with a lower cost of living than large metros.
